U.S. Marshals Arrest D.C. Sex Offender in South Carolina

Posted on 13:51 by Unknown

Washington D.C. – The U.S. Marshals Service located an unregistered sex offender living in South Carolina after an exhaustive one year investigation announced U.S. Marshal Michael Hughes. Jalil Rahman was indicted Thursday in U.S. District Court in Washington on charges under the Adam Walsh Child Protection and Safety Act of 2006.

The U.S. Marshals Service, D.C. Superior Court Sex Offender Investigations Section, located Rahman, aka Leroy Sanders, in Clinton, S.C. Rahman was convicted Feb. 20, 2004, in Georgia on charges of fourth degree sexual abuse against an adult. The victim in this case was deaf. Upon release, Rahman moved to Washington, where he was required to register as a sex offender. He registered with the Court Services and Offender Supervision Agency, D.C. Sex Offender Registry, and was designated as a class “B” registrant, which required him to register annually for 10 years.

On December 8, 2011, D.C. Superior Court, Sex Offender Investigations Section, received information that Rahman was possibly living in South Carolina. Deputy U.S. marshals gathered information that indicated Rahman had last registered in July 2011. Information also indicated that Rahman had moved to the 200 block of Tribble Street in Clinton, S.C., with a girlfriend but had failed to notify the Washington, D.C., Sex Offender Registry or the state of South Carolina of this move.

The Clinton Police Department responded to a disturbance call at the address and arrested Rahman on a parole violation warrant from an underlying conviction of assault with a deadly weapon, on Jan. 12, 2012. Rahman remained in custody in South Carolina on the parole violation charge before being remanded to Marshals custody to face the new indictment.
